Amnesty International Benefit Concert

Support Amnesty International and learn more about the human rights situation in Argentina by joining us for an evening with friends and family listening to Latin folk and acoustic music by various Latin bands. All proceeds from the event will go to support the human rights work of the Amnesty International Group in Argentina. 90th Anniversary of Blatchford Field

It was 90 years ago when Punch Dickens and Mayor Ambrose Bury shook hands and Canada’s first municipal air harbour was opened. Today the Alberta Aviation Museum is committed to preserving the legacy and rich history of Blatchford Field as the next part of the story begins. Join as we celebrate this momentous anniversary! The day’s activities will include: Kids will be able to dress-up as a Bush Pilot, WWI and WWII Fighter Pilots, and have their photographs taken with the aircraft on display. Visitors will get to sit in the cockpits of airplanes normally closed to the public. At 1pm we’ll be presenting a re-enactment of the opening of Blatchford Field. Guest speaker Denny May will talk about his famous father, aviation pioneer Wop May, who was instrumental in the successful creation of Blatchford Field. The Blatchford Development Group will give a special presentation on the future of Blatchford Field. It will also provide the opportunity for visitors to see how the museum is revitalizing its exhibits to better tell the story of our city’s remarkable aviation history. Full details 

Hidden Treasures Open Studio Art Tour

2nd Annual Hidden Treasures Open Art Studio Tour set for June 24, 25, 2017 The Art Society of Strathcona County is proud to present its second annual art studio tour. The Hidden Treasures Open Art Studio Tour is a two day self-guided tour which is free to the public. This tour invites the public into the home studio spaces of local Strathcona County artists to experience their creative process, view their artwork and purchase art for sale. Many of the artists will have draws for a special work of art. This studio tour is a unique event featuring artists who work in many mediums such as oil, watercolor, mixed media, sculpture, pottery, glass, metal work and others. Some of the home studios are set in beautiful garden settings. Several artists will also be set up in the A.J. Ottewell Center, (red barn) and the Loft Gallery in the Ottewell Center will also be open. The Clay Hut and Studio One will be hosting two potters and one glass artist, who will have many works available for sale. On Sunday, June 25th, Smeltzer House will also be hosting a Heritage Tea from 1pm to 4pm. The tour also includes two galleries, Gallery 501 and Spark Gallery. All studios will be open both days from 10am to 5pm. St. Anthony’s Ukrainian Festival

In celebration with Canada’s 150 birthday, come and experience the sights, sounds and tastes of Ukrainian culture. Attendees will be treated to continuous performances on the main stage, children’s activities, traditional Ukrainian food in Baba’s Kitchen, outdoor bread making in a peech (clay oven) and a variety of Ukrainian market vendors. Canada Day Road Race Events 2017

This is a family friendly event on Canada Day morning. Hosted on the Alberta Legislature Grounds, these events have something for everyone – 15km road race, 15km walk, 5 km Fun Run/Walk and 2.5 Family Fun run/walk/obstacle course. In celebration of Canada’s 150th, all participants will receive a commerative finishers medal, t-shirt and water bottle. It also is a fund raising event in support of the cancer research being done by Dr. Kerry Courneya at the University of Alberta.
