Penticton teen arsonist case highlights need for improved mental health support

A judge in Penticton is decrying his role as a “de facto mental health worker.”

The statement came during the sentencing this week of a teen arsonist struggling with mental health issues.

As Shelby Thom reports, both the courts and a local youth counsellor suggest the public healthcare system failed the young woman.
