The Canadian Premier League has taken over operation of FC Edmonton while a search for new ownership continues.

FC Edmonton owner Tom Fath wants to see a return of pro soccer in Edmonton and on Wednesday, he got a step closer when a city committee agreed to continue to look at requests from the soccer club to upgrade Clarke Stadium.

The upstart Canadian Premier League wants Edmonton to expand Clarke Stadium to 7,000 seats if FC Edmonton is to get a team in the league in 2019.
