Meta has begun the process to end access to news on Facebook and Instagram for users in Canada in response to a legislation requiring internet giants to pay news publishers.

The move comes after the company, which owns Facebook and Instagram, announced it would block news in Canada if the Liberal government's Online News Act passes in its current form.
