Winter ice roads are now open, connecting the isolated communities of Hatchet Lake, Black Lake, Fond du Lac, Stony Rapids and Uranium City to southern Saskatchewan.

Shoal Lake First Nation's 'Freedom Road' has officially opened. The community, whose lake provides fresh water to the City of Winnipeg, was cut off from the mainland more than a century ago and had to rely on a rusted ferry.
