Retired Edmonton broadcasters Gord Whitehead and Murray Blakely remember what it was like to cover the aftermath of the Black Friday tornado 30 years ago.

A lot has changed in the past 30 years when it comes to technology and communication. While Environment Canada said the warnings went out well in advance of the 1987 storm, weather forecasting has come leaps and bounds in the past three decades.

On July 31, 1987, 27 people were killed and hundreds injured when an F-4 tornado ripped through the Capital Region, leaving a 37-kilometre path of destruction behind it.
