The BCCDC says this year's vaccine appears to cut the risk of medically attended influenza-like illness by more than half, with an estimated vaccine effectiveness of 55 per cent.

Officials say it's too soon to tell what flu strain will be dominant this season, but that the four types detected so far are included in this year's vaccine.
