Serious 2-vehicle collision on Highway 16: Parkland RCMP

Parkland RCMP said there were multiple injuries from a two-vehicle collision at around 1:20 p.m. on Highway 16 westbound Saturday.

According to the RCMP, the collision involved a Toyota 4 Runner and a Volkswagon Passat.

Police said the driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries. The 16-year-old Volkswagon driver, a resident of Stony Plain, died as a result of injuries from the collision.

Police said there were no other occupants in the vehicles.

The westbound lanes were being rerouted at Ranger Road 20 for several hours as Mounties investigated the incident.

No other details were provided and the RCMP said the investigation is still ongoing.
