The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the death of a 73-year old woman who was hit by an SUV while she was walking on Sunday night.
Police said while their investigation is ongoing, “intoxication and speed are not considered factors in this collision.”
Accord to EPS, officers were called to the area of 118 Avenue and 57 Street at about 9:15 p.m.

“It was reported to police that a female was crossing 118 Avenue at 57 Street in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a red Dodge Nitro,” police said in a news release issued Monday afternoon.

Police said they believe the SUV was headed west on 118 Avenue when it hit the woman.
Alberta Health Services confirmed paramedics were also called to the crash, but police said the woman who was hit died of her injuries at the scene.
Police said the woman driving the SUV remained at the scene of the crash.
