The Edmonton Police Service says its homicide investigators are looking into what happened to a man whose body was found in the northeast section of the city Sunday night.
In a news release issued shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Monday, police said officers were called to a “weapons complaint” at the Belvedere LRT Station in the area of 129 Avenue and Fort Road at about 9:15 p.m.
They said officers found a man’s body and noted he had sustained “suspicious injuries” and that his death has been deemed “suspicious.”
An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.
A significant police presence was visible at the scene late Sunday night. On Monday morning, a spokesperson for Alberta Health Services confirmed a body had been discovered there.
According to AHS, paramedics were called to an “event” in the area just before 10 p.m.
While police would not elaborate on why the death is considered suspicious, they suggested they believe another person may be responsible for the victim’s injuries.
They added that they believe the victim did not know that person.
Police did not say if they have a suspect in connection with the investigation.
Police are hoping that anyone who was in the area between 8:45 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. on Sunday night, and who may have dashcam footage that could help with the investigation, comes forward.
Police are also hoping that anyone with security footage of the area during that time frame also contacts them.
