Toronto police say a child was reportedly bitten after two dogs were “on the loose” in Scarborough on Wednesday morning.
Paramedics said they took a six-year-old child to hospital with serious injuries.
Police said the incident happened near Midland and Lawrence avenue at around 7:15 a.m. Reports came in that there were two unleashed dogs and that a child had been bitten.
A witness told Global News he and his brother were in the area when they heard a mother and a young girl “screaming for their life.”
“They were terrified,” he said.
Zain Afzal said he saw the mother and daughter on the ground as one of the dogs began biting them around their thighs. He said the daughter was bitten quite badly and was bleeding.
“Me and my brother came out and scared them off,” Afzal said.
Another witness named Jeff told Global News he saw the aftermath of the dog attack when a man wearing shorts and no shirt was chasing two dogs through the area.
“I saw the cut on the girl’s leg, the bite was really bad,” said Brittany, a third witness, adding that the dogs were “known to run around the hydro field.”
She also said the dog who allegedly did the attacking appeared to be a black German Sheppard mix breed while a golden or lab – doodle mix was standing behind.
The dogs were later secured by animal services, police said. A spokesperson for Toronto police said the owner of the dogs has also been located.
The spokesperson also confirmed the child was bitten after the dogs went loose but officers are still investigating the circumstances of what happened.
