A two-vehicle crash involving a Winnipeg Police Service cruiser car and a pedestrian vehicle led to the closure one of Winnipeg’s busiest roads for the Wednesday morning rush hour.

Police say the incident happened just after 4 a.m., when officers spotted a Lincoln pickup truck that had been reported stolen. At Main Street and Belmont Avenue, police said, the truck crashed into a police cruiser.

As a result of the crash, two officers were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

One person was arrested at the scene and taken into custody after being treated for injuries.

Police have notified the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba, the province’s police watchdog.
