The person who died has not been identified and police say weather was not a factor in the crash.

At least 47 people have died on Highway 63 in the past six years, including seven people killed in a head-on crash last year.

The road links Edmonton with Fort McMurray.

The provincial government announced plans to twin the highway last spring, with construction to be completed in 2016.
