York Regional Police said officers were called to a hotel on Woodbine Avenue and Highway 7 at around 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police said a baby was located with serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. The infant was two months old, police said in an update on Tuesday evening.

Speaking around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Const. Laura Nicolle said the baby was in hospital receiving emergency treatment.

According to police, a man was taken into custody. The baby and the man in custody were staying in the same hotel, leading police to believe they are related.

Additional witnesses were in the room at the time, police said. One called officers and alerted them.

“There is no threat to public safety,” police said in the tweet.
