Montreal woman’s death marks city’s first homicide of 2023, police say

Montreal police are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year after a woman was found dead Wednesday inside an apartment in the Ville-Marie borough.

Authorities received a 911 call around 7:20 a.m. requesting a wellness check on a person at the building located on Fullum Street near de Rouen Street.

“Sadly the death of the person was pronounced on the scene,” police said.

The woman’s body showed signs of violence, according to police. No other information about her identity was provided in an update given in the afternoon.

Investigators are meeting with a man who police consider to be an important witness in the case.

“The investigation has been transferred to the major crimes squad,” police said.

A safety perimetre has been set up at the scene.
