Who Shot Victor?

The shooting of Victor Newman was one of the most suspenseful storylines of the 1990’s. Totally unexpected, a bullet struck Victor in his office sending him to the floor in a pool of blood. Christine quickly called the paramedics and a race against the clock began. When they arrived, Victor was barely holding on to life. The paramedics frantically worked to save his life and he was soon rushed to the hospital. The question in everyone’s mind was, who shot Victor and why?

Once in the hospital, Victor began his slow recovery. His family was notified and they all rushed to be by his side. Nikki learned of the shooting in the middle of her wedding ceremony to Brad Carlton. The overwhelming news forced her to cancel the wedding and depart for the hospital immediately. The Newman’s prayed for their father’s recovery and vowed that justice would be served.

As Victor started to heal, he mounted an investigation into his attempted murder. Before the shooting, Victor had been counseling Christine about her love problems with Paul and Danny and offered her a job at his company. Christine was again in his office the night he got shot. She was the only witness to the crime and didn’t get a clear view of the attacker. As far as Victor was concerned, however, there were three principal suspects: Jill Abbott, Brad Carlton, and Mari Jo Mason.

Jill Abbott was incredulous when she was named a primary suspect. She and Victor recently had their differences concerning her divorce settlement with John Abbott. Because of the battle, they had both exchanged threatening words. What’s more, Jill owned the same gun used in the shooting and was known to be a great shot.

Brad Carlton had more than one reason to want Victor dead. Regardless of their battle over Nikki, Brad and Victor had a very disagreeable working relationship. Firstly, Victor gave the promotion intended for Brad, to Jack. Secondly, he fired Brad on his wedding day to Nikki. Brad’s gun, however, was not the correct match and he was eventually cleared of any charges.

The third suspect was the mysterious Mari Jo. Victor was in possession of a fax from Keemo that contained information that would end her relationship with Jack Abbott. She was determined to do anything to keep Jack, and murder wasn’t at all out of the question. She had broken into Victor’s office and retrieved the original fax, but Christine had a copy as well. Mari Jo kidnapped Christine and held her captive in a sound proof storeroom in Jabot.

By this time, Victor had dismissed Jill as a suspect and concentrated his efforts on Mari Jo. He enlisted Paul William’s help in tracking down Christine. Meanwhile, a frantic Mari Jo confessed that she had shot Victor and done it all for Jack. Before Paul and Victor could stop Mari Jo, she shot Christine (with wax bullets). Christine survived the shooting and Mari Jo was committed to a mental institution. Thankfully, the murder was solved without the loss of another life.
