Two suspects remained at large Wednesday after what police describe as a “collective, highly-violent event” in Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam on Tuesday afternoon.
Two people who are known to police are also in custody.
“We’re still concerned they are out in the community,” Coquitlam RCMP Insp. Darren Carr said at a media briefing Wednesday, speaking of the remaining suspects.
Employees at the Journey Approved car dealership in Port Coquitlam remain shaken from the brazen armed robbery.
About 12 were working at the dealership around 3:30 p.m. when masked and armed people were seen stealing a black Mercedes CL350.
They told Global News on Wednesday morning they did not see much because they were hidden under their desks.
However, in a statement, Jeff Kornatowsky, the dealer principal, said members of staff were “physically battered” and had their personal belongings stolen. One staff member had to go to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
As the incident continued, police said the suspects crashed the stolen vehicle on Highway 1 near the King Edward overpass and then tried to escape on foot.
One of the four was quickly found and arrested, while another was found in Surrey after allegedly carjacking a vehicle.
Carr said charges are expected in the near future.
He said they are still trying to determine how many shots were fired by police and the suspects during the incident at multiple scenes.
“We were responding to force in like. If we are in a heavily populated area, our officers perform a risk inspection,” Carr said.
RCMP is hoping to have a description of the outstanding suspects released to the public soon.
