EDMONTON – An officer with the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) was charged Wednesday with one count of assault with a weapon after a complaint about the use of a taser.

The charge stems from a complaint that Cst. Trevor Claydon, a 10 year member with the EPS, used a taser on an individual when he had no lawful authority to do so.

The charge follows an in-depth investigation by the Professional Standards Branch which was then reviewed by Alberta Justice.

The constable remains on active duty pending the outcome of the court proceedings.

Since the matter is before the courts, the EPS will not comment on the file.
