Police standoff at Mississauga hospital ends after over 12 hours with no injuries

A standoff between police and a “barricaded person” beside a Mississauga hospital that lasted for most of Friday has ended, police say.

Police had been called to 2300 Eglinton Avenue West for an incident officers described as a “barricaded person” in a building. Crisis negotiators were among the first responders on the scene.

Police said they had received reports of an “armed subject inside.” Officials said a person was barricaded inside the building, but that the incident is “isolated” and “contained.”

In an update posted to Twitter just after 1:30 p.m. on Friday, police said they were in contact with the individual, who was alone.

It was not until around 2 a.m. that Peel police tweeted to tell the public the incident was resolved – over 18 hours after officers were first called to the scene. The tweet did not say what time the standoff ended.

Police said one person was in custody,

“Thank you to the community for your patience and understanding,” Peel police tweeted.
