In a tweet, Toronto police said they responded to reports of a shooting in or near a building at 3:43 p.m. in the Gilder Drive and Eglinton Avenue East area.

Toronto paramedics told Global News they were treating a male victim with critical, life-threatening injuries.

Police at the scene said in an update the victim — a 17-year-old boy — had been declared dead in hospital. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds, officers said.

The parking lot outside a residential building in the area was taped off as police gathered evidence. Officers found the boy outside the building but were unable to determine where he was shot.
