The Special Investigations Unit says the suspect was believed to have been in possession of a firearm when Hamilton Police located the man in an area of Main Street East and Victoria Avenue South.

During the interaction, officers fired Tazer-like weapons at the man with another officer firing a round from a pistol.

The 44-year-old was hit by the electric weapons but not the police firearm.

He was later apprehended in a parking lot on East Avenue North, between King William Street and King Street East, according to the SIU.

East Avenue between King and King William was closed to vehicle traffic for much of the overnight on Thursday amid the SIU probe.
