Man charged with 2nd-degree murder after sister assaulted at east Toronto home: police

Police allege a man fatally assaulted his 49-year-old sister at a home in Toronto’s east end.

Toronto police said emergency crews were called to a home on Westbourne Avenue, in the area of Victoria Park Avenue and Donside Drive, at around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday for an assault.

Police said a man allegedly assaulted his sister, identified as 49-year-old Toronto resident Evdokia Giapoutzis.

Once emergency crews arrived, she was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Evdokia was pronounced dead at the hospital.

In an update, police said Toronto resident Chris Giapoutzis, 37, had been charged with second-degree murder.

He appeared in court Thursday afternoon.

Evdokia’s death marks Toronto’s 40th homicide of 2022.
