Wife of Alleged Biker Mole “temporarily relieved of duties”

MONTREAL — Nancy Potvin, the wife of ex-cop and alleged biker mole Benoit Roberge, has been temporarily relieved of her duties as a Quebec crown prosecutor.

Spokesperson Martine Berube made the announcement Thursday morning inside the Montreal Courthouse – a few minutes following a brief court appearance by the 50-year-old suspect.

His scheduled bail hearing was postponed to October 17.

“She’s at home.  She doesn’t have access to the office. She is not working”, Berube told reporters.

She was cleared of any wrong-doing, according to Berube, but her current files are still being re-examined.

“Her current files have been transferred to another prosecutor”, Berube said.

Benoit Roberge is facing 4 charges: two counts of gangsterism, a count of obstruction of justice, and a count of breach of trust.

Roberge is accused of selling secret police information to members of the criminal underworld.

Reports say one of his primary contacts was Hell’s Angels hitman Rene Charlebois.

Charlebois, nicknamed “Balloune”, escaped from a Laval detention centre last month.

He recently committed suicide.

According to reports, Charlebois recorded some of his conversations with the ex-cop.

The tape ended up in police hands following his death.

Attorney Patrick Davis says a number of defence lawyers are planning on filing legal motions to have charges against their clients dropped.

Benoit Roberge has testified as a star witness in a number of biker trials.

“Right now, all of his credibility is way over”, Davis told Global News.  “The court cannot believe him anymore.
