MONTREAL – The case of a retired Montreal police officer who faces gangsterism charges has been put off for one week.
Benoit Roberge’s bail hearing was to have gone ahead this morning but was postponed after he hired a new lawyer.
The 50-year-old Roberge is accused of giving members of the Hells Angels sensitive police information in exchange for cash.

He is facing four charges: one of obstructing justice, one of breach of trust and two related to gangsterism.
The accused is a longtime anti-biker gang investigator who often testified against the gangs in court.
Roberge kept his head low and was slightly slumped over in court today.
He will remain detained. His presence is not required for the next court appearance, on Oct. 17.
Meanwhile, Quebec’s prosecutor’s office says Roberge’s wife, a Crown prosecutor, has been temporarily relieved of her duties with pay for personal reasons.
A spokeswoman for that office says Roberge’s wife knew nothing of the allegations against him and is not implicated in his case.
Martine Berube says the woman, who specialized in handling organized-crime cases, is co-operating with provincial police and has met with investigators.
