Small Quebec town’s main drag destroyed by fire

MONTREAL – A huge fire tore through a Laurentian town over the weekend, razing nearly a dozen businesses.

The fire in St-Donat apparently began late Sunday afternoon along the main street of the town, Rue Principale.

Firefighters from crews in five nearby municipalities rallied to help battle the blaze, which was brought under control late Sunday evening.

By Monday morning, many were still on site, working to ensure the fire was completely out.

Firefighters and investigators from the Quebec provincial police were also combing through the debris, looking for clues as to the cause of the fire.

Located about 125 kilometres north of Montreal, St-Donat is not far from Mont-Tremblant.
