UPDATE: Concrete company with city contract goes under

CALGARY – There are some big holes left to fill, after a concrete company with a city contract announced it is going out of business.

About 55 people who work for Asty Construction were given termination notice on Tuesday after owner Plumb-Line Companies announced they were going under.

The city contracted company currently has about 250 open excavation sites around Calgary, mostly affecting sidewalk repair in residential areas of southeast Calgary.

The leftover work must be completed before winter arrives and the temperature drops for the concrete to set properly. City crews are now working to repair the sites, before snow falls.

Plumb-Line employed an estimated 250-300 people in Calgary, Medicine Hat and Edmonton.
