2 injured in collision between vehicle, transport truck in Fort Erie, Ont.

Police are investigating after a vehicle collided with a transport truck in Fort Erie, Ont.

Niagara police told Global News the collision occurred just before 3:30 p.m. in the area of Bowen and Pettit roads.

Officers said the passenger vehicle had two people in it at the time of the collision and was forced from the roadway.

Police said both adults were extracted from the car and treated by Niagara Paramedics.

In an press release on on Tuesday, Niagara police said the driver of the vehicle, a 78-year-old woman from Fort Erie, suffered critical and life threatening injuries.

The vehicle’s passenger, an 81-year-old man from Fort Erie also suffered serious injuries.

Police said both were initially transported to a local area hospital, but were then taken “out of region” for further treatment.

According to police, the 53-year-old driver of the transport truck was not injured as a result of the collision.

Roads were temporarily closed in the area while officers investigated, but have since reopened.

Police said the passenger vehicle was “demolished” in the collision.

“The Freightliner damage is estimated at approximately $6,000,” a press release reads.
