Man apprehended following weapons complaint in Lower Mission neighbourhood: Kelowna RCMP

UPDATE: Kelowna RCMP say a man was apprehended following a weapons complaint in the Lower Mission that saw police close down a section of Lequime Road.

According to police, the incident began at approximately 11:35 a.m., along the 600 block, with the man being arrested around two hours later under the Mental Health Act.

The RCMP’s Southeast District Critical Incident Program’s Emergency Response Team was deployed to the scene, along with a crisis negotiator.

“A man was evaluated by the police and a crisis team mental health nurse and the investigation into the weapons complaint continues,” said Cpl. Tammy Lobb. “Police thank the public for their patience and understanding while we worked to resolve this incident safely.”

Police say an unfolding incident is occurring in Kelowna’s Lower Mission neighbourhood.

In a press release, Kelowna RCMP say the incident began shortly after 11:30 a.m., along the 600 block of Lequime Road.

RCMP are asking the public, including motorists, to avoid the area, which has a heavy police presence.
