Toronto police say a man has been charged after an employee with the TTC was stabbed while riding a train at Dupont station on Wednesday morning.
Police said the incident happened at around 6:15 a.m.
Duty Insp. Michael Williams told reporters that officers found a 46-year-old man suffering from two stab wounds to his back.
Williams said the TTC employee was on his way to work and was wearing his uniform. The stabbing took place on a train while it was moving, Williams said.
Williams said after reviewing video footage that it appears the TTC employee was involved in an altercation with someone on the subway just before he was stabbed.
Another TTC employee saw the altercation and went to help the injured employee, Williams said.
He also said it appears that the employee and the suspect did not know each other.
The victim was initially taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, paramedics said.
However, Williams said in an update that his condition has improved and he is now in non-life threatening condition. The man is expected to be discharged from hospital at some point on Wednesday, Williams added.
TTC service has resumed on Line 1 in the area.
In a press release issued Wednesday evening, Toronto police said 30-year-old Murice Stephens was arrested.
Officers said he has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and weapons dangerous.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
