There was a heavy police presence at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton on Monday evening, after a threat was made against the facility.
Fredericton Police Force said they responded to the call at around 5:30 p.m., and asked the public to stay away from the area.
“Police, along with staff, carried out a thorough search of the premises,” police wrote in a statement just after 8 p.m.
“The investigation determined there was no immediate threat. The investigation into the origins of the threats is ongoing.”
In a statement, Nicole Tupper, executive director for Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, said the facility was put in a temporary Code Black because of the incident.
“After a thorough search was conducted, it was determined there was no threat at Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital and the Code Black was lifted at 8 p.m. with normal operations resuming,” she said in the statement. “Inpatient care was not affected during this time, however some non-urgent Emergency Department patients were advised to leave the department to minimize foot traffic.”
