Calgary International Film Festival hopes to ‘seduce’ crowds

CALGARY – The 2013 Calgary International Film Festival kicks off Thursday with an eclectic lineup organizers hope will appeal to even the most fickle moviegoers.

Director Don McKellar’s The Grand Seduction will open the festival with a red carpet gala at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.

The movie follows the plight of residents living in a small Newfoundland fishing community as they try to charm a big city doctor into staying in their town.

The movie stars Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights, John Carter), Gordon Pinsent (Wind at My Back, Due South) and Brendan Gleeson (The Raven).

Dozens of other movies which will be featured at the annual festival, which wraps up Sept. 29.
