Toronto taxi driver killed after shooting, crash in city’s east end

Toronto police say a taxi cab driver has died following a shooting in Scarborough late Sunday.

Emergency crews were called to Pharmacy and Eglinton avenues before 9 p.m. for reports that a taxi driver had crashed into a fence and was unresponsive.

Police said they found the driver alone in the vehicle with gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition by paramedics where he later died from his injuries.

Police have since identified the victim as 73-year-old Toronto resident Christopher Jung.

Officers said a man wearing dark clothing was seen running away from the scene.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

The homicide unit is now investigating the incident. It was one of many shootings in Toronto over the weekend, four of which were fatal.
