SASKATOON – There will be a lot of action in the rural municipality of Corman Park over the next few days involving car chases, gun fire and other movie magic.
Residents in the R.M. are being told not to worry though.
It’s the latest collaboration between Angel Entertainment, Aiken Heart Productions and Moneo’s Prowler Pictures.
Shooting of the feature film “Big Muddy” began this week in Saskatoon and moves out to rural regions this weekend.
This project is one of very few to have been grandfathered under the former Saskatchewan Tax Credit regime.
Producers say getting to this point was still challenging.
“Probably 40 per cent of the people working on Big Muddy the movie we’re shooting right now were originally from Saskatchewan and have moved away,” said Bob Crowe, Angel Entertainment.
“We’ve had to bring them back to do this, it’s killing our budget because we now pay for their airfare to come back, we’re putting up them up in hotels, but we want the same crews to work with.”
Crowe says he believes the government is looking for ways to make the industry viable in the province again and hopes that will happen soon.
In the meantime, the film is expected to finish shooting in Assiniboia, Sask. by the end of September.
Big Muddy will be released next fall.
