The Sûreté du Québec has confirmed the arrest of a 26-year-old Terrebonne man in Saint-Lin-Laurentides Thursday afternoon in connection with the death of a 27-year-old man.
Police said neighbours called 911 about 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday after hearing shots fired inside a Blainville, Que., residence — a suburb located roughly 40 kilometres north of Montreal.
Inside, officers found the victim, who was badly injured, and transported him to hospital where he later died.
The victim has since been identified as Maxime Villeneuve — a Blainville resident.
Earlier in the day, the SQ said the victim was not known to police and the incident did not appear to be linked to organized crime.
Members of the force’s anti-gun trafficking unit were deployed because a firearm was used in the killing.
Crime scene technicians were on the scene early Thursday, looking for evidence and talking to possible witnesses.
The SQ said the man arrested in connection with Villeneuve’s death is expected to appear at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse on Friday.
His file will be submitted to the Quebec Crown Prosecutors Office to determine what charges might be laid in the case.
