Student in critical condition after being struck by vehicle in north end of Peterborough

A pedestrian was taken to hospital Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle in the north end of Peterborough – Sep 7, 2021

Police say a student is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in the north end of Peterborough on Tuesday morning.

According to the Peterborough Police Service, around 8:50 a.m., a Grade 11 student was struck by a vehicle as they were getting off of a city transit bus near Langton and Hilliard streets.

Paramedics treated the pedestrian at the scene before taking them to hospital for further treatment. The collision occurred nearby Adam Scott Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

Police say the student was subsequently flown to a Toronto hospital in critical condition.

Tuesday marked the return to school for thousands of students across Ontario.

A section of Hilliard between Philip Street and Oriole Drive was closed as police investigated.

It is unclear how long the road will be closed or if any charges will be laid.
