A boil water advisory for Okotoks, Alta., has been completely lifted as of Thursday, officials said.
“The Town of Okotoks has been able to lift the boil water advisory for all areas of north Okotoks, after Alberta Health Services approved the lab results of water samples taken from the impacted areas,” the town said in an online update.
The town said residents should flush clean and sanitize their water pipes, treatment devices, storage systems and plumbed appliances before drinking the water.
The advisory was first issued on Sunday, and was lifted for many parts of the town on Wednesday.
Initially, an Alberta Emergency Alert said a leak at the north end of town caused the low water supply in the reservoirs.
However, the town later clarified that problem was actually due to a technical issue with the programming of a water level sensor, which led it to inaccurately reading water levels.
“This is really good news for our community and we truly appreciate the cooperation of everyone who was affected,” operations and water utilities director Chris Radford said.
“The Town worked quickly to complete flushing the impacted areas, which accelerated the timeframe to lift the advisory.”
