Woman in critical condition after being struck by vehicle in Oshawa, driver charged

A 40-year-old woman is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Oshawa Thursday afternoon, officials say.

Emergency services were called to Malaga Road, between Park Road and Oxford Street, for a serious collision involving a pedestrian just before 3:30 p.m.

Durham police said a 2021 black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck lost control, struck a pedestrian and pinned her against a wall of a commercial business.

He said the driver was arrested on suspicion of being impaired.

In an update Friday, police said 57-year-old Philip Nicholls was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm and operate conveyance 80 milligrams or above.

He was held for a bail hearing.

An ORNGE air ambulance spokesperson said they took the victim to a Toronto trauma centre.

Police said she is in critical but stable condition.
