Commercial building collapses during large fire in Burlington

Firefighters say a commercial building in Burlington “is a total loss” following a large industrial blaze near the QEW and Guelph Line.

The fire started just after 10 a.m. on Friday at a building on Pettit Road and Mountainside Drive.

“Crews found a medium sized commercial structure with a well involved with fire and shortly after arrival part of the building collapsed,” Deputy Chief Craig Slack told Global News.
“Heavy equipment had been called in to help get at the deep seated fire under the collapsed area. The building is a total loss with one civilian injury.”

Police closed Mountainside Drive from Stanley Drive to Royal Drive as well as Pettit Road between Mountainside Drive and Industrial Street for hours during the blaze.
