Police investigating report of baby buried at downtown Hamilton residence

Hamilton Police are now getting some assistance as they continue to investigate reports of a baby buried at a residence in downtown Hamilton.

Officials at the Centre of Forensic Sciences have now joined police at a vacant home on Wellington Street North at Wilson Street, but they have still not been able to confirm that a baby has been buried there.

A spokesperson for Hamilton police says a 24-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man have appeared in court on charges of unlawfully being in a dwelling.

Their names have not been released, but they remain in custody

Hamilton police say they received information about “suspicious circumstances” at a residence at 102 Wellington Street North just after midnight on Wednesday.

The information they received involved a baby buried at the residence but currently, police say they are unable to confirm whether or not that report is accurate.

The major crimes unit has taken over the investigation and police are expected to be on the scene for several days.
