Quebec man charged with second-degree murder following stabbing in Peterborough: police

Peterborough police say a male died of his injuries following a stabbing in the Aylmer Street area on Tuesday morning – Feb 16, 2021

A Quebec man has been charged with second-degree murder following a stabbing in Peterborough on Tuesday morning, the city’s first homicide of 2021.

According to the Peterborough Police Service, around 10:15 a.m., officers were called to the area of Aylmer and London streets for reports of a stabbing.

Police say they found a male victim at the scene. He was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre where he died of his injuries, police said Tuesday afternoon.

Police currently have the residence secured as part of the investigation.

One person is in custody following an arrest made at Lansdowne Place mall shortly after the incident, police said.

Markuss Thoby, 29, of Quebec has been charged with second degree murder. He is being held in custody and will appear in court in Peterborough on Wednesday.

The name of the victim has yet to be released.
