EDMONTON – Two people have been charged after more than $700,000 worth of drugs was seized from a downtown Fort McMurray apartment.
After executing a search warrant on a vehicle and apartment, officers found almost five kilograms of cocaine and over 26 kilograms of marijuana. They also seized drug trafficking paraphernalia and a truck.
An 18-month-old child was present while the vehicle was being searched, prompting police to call in Alberta Human Services.
As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old man has been charged with trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana, and possession of cocaine.

A 23-year-old woman has also been charged with trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
The names of the accused are not being released to protect the child’s identity. The two have been released on bail and are scheduled to make their next court appearance on August 27 in Fort McMurray.
The drug investigation was led by ALERT’s Wood Buffalo Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU), with help from the Wood Buffalo RCMP, as well as units in Calgary and Red Deer.
“Investigations into drug trafficking and organized crime are complex and take time,” explained CFSEU-Wood Buffalo Sgt. Kirk Peyton in a release. “This bust reinforces how important collaboration between partners is to achieve results and ultimately make our communities safer.”
CFSEU-Wood Buffalo is reminding the public to call its gang information hotline at (780) 788-4264 (GANG) to report any information that might help the police in its crackdown on gang and organized crime.
