Suspicious death investigation closes portion of Highway 21 northeast of Edmonton

RCMP are investigating the suspicious death along Highway 21 between the Yellowhead Highway and Fort Saskatchewan, where a man was found lying beside a vehicle that appeared to have several bullet holes in it. Nicole Stillger reports – Dec 18, 2020

The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit is investigating a suspicious death northeast of Edmonton.

At around 11:40 p.m. Thursday, Strathcona County RCMP were called to Highway 21 north of the Yellowhead Highway after a person passing by saw an injured man near a vehicle along the highway.

The vehicle appeared to have several bullet holes in it and several markers were placed on the highway Friday morning.

The southbound lanes of Highway 21 were shut down to traffic between township roads 540 and 534.

The southbound lanes of the highway remained closed late Friday morning and were expected to remain closed until the afternoon. Traffic was being redirected onto Highway 15.

In a news release issued at 1:43 a.m., the RCMP said there is “no concern for safety.”

The man’s identity and cause of death are not known.
