Witnesses, dashcam video sought of fatal collision on Highway 97 north of Kelowna airport

Police say road conditions were a factor in a fatal collision along Highway 97 north of Kelowna’s airport on Friday morning.

According to Kelowna RCMP, the accident involved a northbound Toyota car colliding with a GMC pickup truck and a Chevrolet pickup truck.

The black Toyota was heavily damaged in the collision. The driver, a 26-year-old Kelowna man, was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to save him from bystanders and emergency responders.

The accident happened along the 8000 block of Highway 97, near Commonwealth Road, just after 7 a.m.

Police say the drivers of the two trucks were treated on scene for minor injuries and were cooperative.

Traffic along that stretch of highway was impacted for hours, but it has since reopened.

“While it is early in the investigation, road conditions appear to be a contributing factor in this crash,” said Const. Solana Paré.

“Investigators asking anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward and speak with us to assist in the investigation.”
