A man was rushed to hospital after he allegedly shot at a police officer in Surrey and then turned the gun on himself.
RCMP said they were called to Fraser Highway and 159 Street just after 2 a.m. following a report of a man with a knife attempting to rob people.
The man allegedly shot at an officer who was in a patrol car, and then turned the gun on himself, police said. He suffered life-threatening injuries, police said, and Emergency Health Services took him to hospital.
The officer was not hurt and is receiving support.
The incident does not appear to be gang-related, police said, and there is no apparent threat to the public.
The Independent Investigations Office, a civilian-led body that responds to incidents of serious injury or death involving police officers, has been notified and is attending the scene.
