Editors note: Ben Christensen pleaded guilty to threatening an Alberta Justice Crown prosecutor. He was sentenced on September 20, 2013 to 15 months in jail. He was given credit for two months of pre-trial custody, leaving him with 13 months left to serve. In a letter to Alberta Justice in February 2016, Christensen calls himself a victim of the justice system and requested that his file be preserved. He also expressed his intention to appeal his sentence. Global News has contacted Christensen for a comment however he has declined to respond directly to our questions.
CALGARY – Police have charged a 27-year-old man after he allegedly threatened two local Crown prosecutors.
The investigation was launched in March after the Calgary Crown Prosecutor’s Office contacted police to report an email they had received, with contained specific and targeted threats against two prosecutors.
Police investigated and issued an arrest warrant for the suspect.
On Friday, police took Benjamin Ernest Christensen into custody in Lethbridge.
The 27-year-old, formerly of Calgary, has been charged with two counts each of extortion, intimidation of a justice participant and uttering threats.
It is alleged Christensen made the threats in an effort to have charges against a friend of his dropped.
