Nova Scotia RCMP say a man is facing charges following a standoff with police Thursday morning.
Police say the Pictou detachment arrived to an Eagle Road residence around 3 a.m., after receiving a complaint that a man was threatening to burn another person’s home down.
The suspect had left the area by then, but police say officers located him inside his home on Beach Road.
Police tweeted around 8 a.m. advising residents to “shelter in place and avoid the area.”
According to the RCMP release, the suspect told officers to leave or he would shoot them.
Additional emergency crews arrived and the suspect was taken to custody several hours later.
Police say 40-year-old Darryl Joseph Toney has been charged with two counts of breaching conditions and three counts of uttering threats.
Earlier Thursday, the Pictou Landing First Nation Facebook page, run by Chief Andrea Paul, posted that the scene on Beach Road is a “serious incident.”
It said the PLFN School is closed for the morning, and the local bus will not be travelling on that road.
It also said all administrative buildings in the area are closed until noon.
Around 10 a.m., Paul posted that the situation was resolved.
Toney is set to appear in Pictou court Friday morning.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
