City cops pledge crime crack down after woman’s murder

Winnipeg’s police chief is ordering a crackdown on drug-related crime into the city’s troubled North End.

This comes a day after a pregnant woman was gunned down.

Keith McCaskill says he’s asked his senior officers to come up with a plan – quickly – so the majority of the area’s residents feel safe in their homes again.

28-year-old Joanne Hoeppner, who neighbours say was eight months pregnant, was shot dead through the door of a house early Wednesday morning. – CanWest News Service
