Memorial held for local radio legend Billy Powers, wife

CALGARY- A local radio legend and his wife were laid to rest Thursday afternoon.

Billy and Donna Lee Powers died on July 4th, after being stabbed to death in their Braeside home.

Donna Lee’s adopted son, 35-year-old Derek Puffer, has since been charged with second-degree murder in the case. He was living with the couple at the time of their deaths.

71-year-old Billy Powers was the sports director at News Talk 770, and was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in 2001. 64-year-old Donna Lee had worked for the Calgary Jewish Federation for the last eight years, and both were well known in the community.
