According to police, the vehicle involved in the pursuit was also reported stolen from the Waterloo area.  Police said they now have all three suspects in custody.

According to police, the incident happened around 8 a.m. Police said officers were dispatched to the area of Ponchon Avenue and Peacock Boulevard over reports of a suspicious vehicle.

According to police, as officers arrived at the neighbourhood and saw the vehicle, the driver immediately drove off.

Police said they signalled to the driver of the vehicle to stop but that the driver ignored their request and continued to flee south on Hamilton Street.

Afterwards, police said the vehicle turned south on Mill Street and stopped by a boat launch close to the river. The driver and one other passenger were taken to custody, but police said the third suspect fled on foot along the beach.

Police said an OPP canine unit arrived on scene and searched the area for the suspect, with help from OPP and the Cobourg Police Service. The search ended shortly before noon, with the suspect not having been found, according to police.

Later that day, police issued an update saying they received a call from a citizen who said they saw a man matching the suspect’s description walking down Hope Street. Police said officers arrived and identified the man as the suspect from the pursuit earlier, and took him into custody.
