A man drowned at a popular swimming spot in B.C.’s Fraser Valley on Saturday.
Emergency crews were called to reports of a possible drowning at Cultus Lake around 3 p.m.
Witnesses told Global News the victim appeared to be a man in his 20s, swimming with a group of about 10 people in a part of the lake known to have a sharp drop-off.
Steven Griffiths said he saw a large crowd form at the southeast side of the lake, and a number of boats begin to swarm in the area.
A dive team and helicopter arrived shortly after, he said.
Crews pulled someone out of the water around 4 p.m. and set up barriers while they performed CPR, he added.
The BC Coroners Service is investigating. The man’s name and age were not released.
